Frequently Asked Questions
- Q
- Is it worth contacting INS - even if I'm unsure about selling my story?
- A
- Yes, please do. We can discuss all the questions you may have - with no obligation, in absolute confidence.
- Q
- How do I know if a magazine would be interested in my story?
- A
- You won't know unless you talk to us. We have a great deal of experience in dealing with newspapers and magazines. We can give expert advice - before you get involved.
- Q
- What is the process?
- A
- We will telephone you to start with and ask you for a few more details and if you have any photographs or documents which we might need to illustrate the article. We will then talk to carefully selected publications and if they are interested, send them a brief synopsis.
- Q
- Do you need my permission to sell the story?
- A
- Yes, you have full control. You will have a contract to sign before anything is published and it will confirm the details, including the fee.
- Q
- Can I use a false name?
- A
- Only if it is for legal reasons, such as to protect a child's identity. Each story would be looked at on an individual basis but normally your own name would be used.
- Q
- What if I am not happy with the story?
- A
- You will be fully consulted before the copy is sent for publication and can you read the article through yourself, suggesting any changes which you think might be necessary.
- Q
- Will I receive a fee for my story?
- A
- Yes, we will negotiate this for you with the publication.
- Q
- Does INS charge a fee?
- A
- No, we are paid directly by the magazine or newspaper. Our service to you is FREE. We do not charge you any commission.
- Q
- How soon will I be paid?
- A
- Once the story has been published the magazine will usually release payment 4-6 weeks later.
